This exact LinkedIn DM

LinkedIn DMs are always tricky. People say to build connections, interact, familiarize yourself, and then pitch the service, but I don’t like that.

I try to get straight to the point without being rude.

Most people say to point out something they lack and explain how you can help improve it. This is a great way to get clients, but it requires a lot of content marketing knowledge and time.

For us freelance writers, getting clients is the first priority, whether it’s to make our portfolio more diverse or get better pay.

SaaS always pays better, trust me.

After lots of trial and error, I’ve come up with this message that I send to decision-makers who accept my connection request.

(No, I don’t have LinkedIn Premium, and I don’t send personalized notes while outreaching.)

Here it is:

Hi [Name],

Thank you for accepting my connection request.

Not taking much of your time just getting straight to the point.

I recently came across [company name] and went ahead and explored the platform.

What you guys have put up there is really commendable!

I’ve been writing SEO-driven SaaS content for over three years and would love the opportunity to contribute to [company name] content efforts.

If this is something that aligns with your needs, I’d be happy to share some of my best writing samples.

If not, that’s completely fine. I’m just excited to connect with you :)

The reason for not sharing samples upfront is pretty simple. I want to get a reply.

If they don’t respond after viewing my samples, I won’t know if it was due to a lack of openings or the quality of my work.

This way, if they don’t respond, I assume they either don’t work with freelancers or haven’t seen my message.

This message has gotten me replies like this

It’s either a yes or a referral or a redirection to the right person to contact.

I do make it a point to reach out to 2-3 people from the same company to improve my chances.

There are times when I don’t get a reply but this works 90% of the time.
