Update your Freelancing Portfolio
What Client's really look for!
Hellloooooo,
Are you bored of my hello’s yet? Should I try a new greeting?
Hola Amigos / Konnichiwa Minnasan / Namaste Mitron
(the only other languages I know, pick yours!)
I spent the weekend perfecting my portfolio and added a new services page on my website focused on my core offer: B2B SaaS Content Writing services.

There are two ways to approach content writing.
Beginners usually know English, can form sentences, research well, and understand basic SEO.
They often promote themselves with claims like, 'I can write 3000 words a day,' which honestly, what is that?
This is what my first portfolio looked like in 3 years back.
My newbie self figured this was good enough to share with companies for which I was applying for internships.
Yes, internships.
I was too naiive to understand freelancing then and was only familiar with the concept of internships.
That's how I built my portfolio. I threw in some links, added everything I had done at the time to show I knew my stuff, didn’t even name it properly, and called it done.

Now, with over 3 years of experience and 400+ blogs written, I belong to the second category: experienced writers.
My portfolio is more refined—it addresses my ideal client directly, clearly lists my services, shows results, and even links to a dedicated FAQ page.
It’s still not perfect. I’m yet to add testimonials, pricing tiers, and bylined samples.
But, progress over perfection!
The important thing to keep in mind is
IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE YOU HAVE YOUR PORTFOLIO HOSTED.
It can be in Google Docs
Google Sheets
Canva PDF
Own Website
Hosting websites like Notion/Clearvoice or any other.
Now, I have both a website and a PDF version I can send to prospects.
Want the template? Just reply and I’ll share it with you!
IT’S IMPORTANT TO HAVE CERTAIN THINGS IN YOUR PORTFOLIO THAT RETAIN PROSPECTS INSTEAD OF CONFUSING THEM.
Curated Work Samples: Limit the number of projects to the top three that best represent your skills and target audience's needs.
(The samples hosted on my website are not bylined, but I added the disclaimer that I can share the original drafts in case you wanna verify it.)
Clear Pricing Information: Provide price ranges or starting rates to set expectations early and filter non-ideal clients.
(I have kept the minimum as ₹4 per word for blogs to filter out non-qualifying leads but I am yet to figure out pricing tiers)
Strategic Testimonials: Place client feedback next to the relevant projects for immediate credibility.
(Feels weird asking clients for testimonials, I’ll do it though)
Process Breakdown: Use bullet points to clearly outline your working process, from discovery to final delivery.
(My work structure varies depending on the client. Some work on retainers, others on a project basis, and some are as simple as converting through a WhatsApp DM. However, it’s important to have a clear process for yourself.)
Concise FAQ Section: Keep answers crisp and to the point for clarity and ease of understanding.
With this you have got yourself a a well-structured portfolio that simplifies decision-making and helps clients feel confident in choosing you for their projects.
Let me know if you have any questions or need me to talk about something else in detail.
As for work updates:
I outreached (only) 3 people this week but on the brighter side signed my first client of 2025!
Super stoked about it. I get bylined articles and get to strategize content topics with them.
Waiting to hear back from another prospect.

I hope you are drinking your hot chocolates and keeping warm.
It’s 5 degrees here. 🥶
See you next Friday!
Love / Amar / Ai / Pyaar,
Nikita
